Beaming smiles and poignant memories should be at the heart of every wedding, but the road to that day can be filled with potholes, ruts and winding bends - to the point that you sometimes feel you have lost sight of that magic-filled destination.
Weddings are wonderful occasions but the planning and organisation can be fraught and very stressful, especially for the Bride-to-be. Coupled with that, wedding celebrations have a nasty tendency to roller-coaster out of control and transform themselves from the light-hearted, intimate and special day you envisaged to a formal, stiff-and-starchy occasion where your close group of family and friends has been watered down by guests you've never even met. Combine this with a hectic working life and you end up with an experience that, for some, is extremely stressful, time consuming and utterly unromantic.
It’s little wonder, therefore, that there is an increasing trend for rural, rustic Kent weddings, set in relaxed and beautifully tranquil locations. Imagine; a marriage blessing in an orchard, a drinks reception surround by majestic oak trees and wild flower meadows, and a live band to play the evening out whilst you chat to your friends, seated on hay bales around a warming fire pit. When you do this it’s easy to understand the appeal of rural, alternative wedding venues over hotels and restaurants.
Is a wedding in Kent right for you?
For some, there can be a reluctance to embrace wedding venues found in the English countryside. After all, ‘rustic’ is wonderfully romantic, but most couples are still after excellent food, drink and second-to-none service – a warm glass of wine and simple food served in a muddy field is not every girls’ idea of their perfect wedding day!
However, at Hush Heath - our state of the art winery set in 400 acres of rolling Kentish countryside and just 50 minutes from London by train - we can offer a wedding venue which is both wonderfully romantic, but also uncompromising in its food and drink service. Indeed, for many, a vineyard wedding
set in the ‘Garden of England’ is the perfect combination of rural tranquillity and elegant sophistication.
The spectacular modern winery is the perfect venue for any wine lovers’ civil marriage ceremony - what better way to celebrate your big day than having a blessing in the orchards or vineyards with a glass of English Sparkling Wine? Then it’s back to the marquee, via the winery’s tractor and trailer to enjoy a wonderful range of English wines and ciders, perfectly matched with a bespoke menu provided by The Goudhurst Inn
; a local village pub owned by Hush Heath Estate.
English wine, locally sourced food
Of course, one of the huge attractions of a rural wedding is the opportunity to keep all elements locally and ethically sourced, and to be able to choose the finest, seasonal foods from the land. Nothing beats Kentish asparagus in May, strawberries in July and apples in September. Simple foods, locally sourced, and prepared creatively with enormous skill makes for a perfect food-lovers wedding. And if you wish to go the whole-hog and have foraged food, you can.
From an event planning view point there are huge advantages too. The photographic opportunities are enormous at our Kent wedding venue – be it amongst the vineyards or orchards, in the oak woodland, or perhaps on the Hush Heath winery terrace. Similarly, if you don’t want to be restricted by space or style a marquee in a rural setting could be perfect for you. It provides the ideal ‘ blank canvas’ for creating your own unique day, whether it be hop garlands, a wine-barrel bar, individual teepees, or a hog roast and fire pit – the choice is yours.
